Just don't assume its the placer that is leaving the bags around the
container.

When I have checked up on my boxes I frequently have found them with
baggies around them, full of water and bug cases. These are sturdy,
Rubbermaid containers that really don't need extra help. I know one
of them was done by my brother finding his first box and not knowing
what to do with one of the bags he figured it must go on the outside.
I guess it's nice that people are trying to make sure they are
protected, but I don't think these help.

And if you find my boxes, please remove the bags that may appear
around them.

Just furnishing another viewpoint. IF baggies are turned upside down when places on the outside, then I have seen their effectiveness. The water doesn't go in, as the opening is at the bottom. just my humble opinion. a good box is always preferable, but a baggie can be useful in certain circumstances.

Outside baggies tend to get small holes and tears in them, and then
condensation can turn your Letterbox into a Wetterbox!
